What we collect

Analytics, automatically

This site uses Google Analytics 4. It records the page you viewed, roughly where in the world you are, the type of device and browser, how you arrived, and which outbound product links were clicked. That last one is the only custom measurement here: a click on an affiliate link records the destination, the product identifier and the page it happened on, so we can tell which recommendations people actually find useful.

None of that identifies you to us. We cannot look up an individual visitor, and we do not try. Google Analytics is a third party service with its own privacy terms, and Google may process this data on its own account. Their policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.

Affiliate cookies

When you click a product link here, Amazon sets a cookie in your browser recording that you arrived from this site. If you buy something within the attribution window, Amazon pays us a commission. We never see your order, your name, your address or your payment details. What we receive is an aggregate report of items sold and fees earned, with no purchaser identity attached to it. Email, only if you hand it over

Several pages offer to email you a build list or a planning checklist. That form posts to a Google Form, which writes your address and the name of the page you submitted from into a spreadsheet we control. The page name is recorded so we can see which pages people find useful, and nothing else about you is captured. We use that address to send the material you asked for and occasional planning material of the same kind. We do not sell, rent or share the list, every message carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you.

If you email us directly, we keep the message so we can answer it and so a correction can be traced back to its source. Ask and we will delete it.

What we do not collect

• No accounts, logins or passwords. There is nothing to sign into.
• No payment details. Nothing is sold on this site and there is no checkout.
• No comment system, so no comment data.
• No advertising network cookies. This site carries no display advertising, no retargeting pixels and no social tracking pixels.
• No newsletter tracking pixels beyond the unsubscribe handling in the send.

Cookies used here

Two categories, and that is all. Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics, which distinguish one visit from another and expire on their own schedule. And affiliate cookies set by Amazon at the moment you click through, which exist to attribute a purchase. This site sets no cookies of its own, and no cookie here is required for any page to work.

How to opt out

• Analytics. Install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or block analytics in your browser or with an extension. Every page here works normally with analytics blocked and nothing is gated behind it.
• Affiliate cookies. Block third party cookies or clear them. Doing so does not change your price, and it does not affect anything you read here. It only means a purchase is not attributed to this site.
• Email. Use the unsubscribe link in any message, or write to us and ask.
• Do Not Track. Browsers send this signal inconsistently and it is not honoured uniformly by third parties, so we do not claim to honour it. Blocking is more reliable than asking.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal data is held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to opt out of its sale. We do not sell personal data to anyone, for any price, and we never have. The only personal data we hold directly is an email address you gave us on purpose, plus any message you sent. Write to [email protected] and we will tell you what we have and delete it on request.

Data held by Google Analytics and by Amazon is subject to their own policies and their own deletion mechanisms, which we cannot operate on your behalf.

Children

This site is written for adults planning and paying for a room. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect anything from them. If you believe a child has submitted an address here, tell us and it will be removed.

Data location and security

The site is served as static files from a content delivery network. Analytics data sits with Google and email addresses sit in Google Workspace, both of which may process data in the United States and elsewhere. We hold no database of our own, which is deliberate: the safest way to protect visitor data is not to accumulate it.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the change will be reflected on this page. Since we collect so little, changes here are rare. Questions go through the contact page. See also the terms of service and the disclaimer.
